Flow boiling characteristics in plain and porous coated microchannel heat sinks

چکیده

Flow boiling heat transfer enhancement using porous coatings in microchannels has been experimentally investigated with HFE-7200. Results of the coated microchannel sink were compared to baseline results a plain, micro-milled copper at similar operating conditions, namely inlet pressure 1 bar, mass flux 200 – 400 kg/m2 s and subcooling 10 K wall fluxes between 24.5 kW/m2 206.6 kW/m2. visualisation SEM surface analysis are presented. The was densely populated well-defined cavities 0.6 µm 3.3 wide. plain channels had fewer for given area these larger, i.e. up 6 µm. Bubble generation frequency is significantly higher than due presence more favourable nucleation sites on surface. pattern development occurred similarly both sinks, bubbly slug, churn annular flow increasing flux, earlier transitions sink. Enhancement shown be influenced by velocity may reach 44% low fluxes, where nucleate mechanism dominant. It diminishes corresponding suppression following regime transition. Pressure drop increase posed relatively small terms overall system power consumption but appears oscillations as well channel rewetting behaviour.

Experimental Investigation and Theoretical Model for Subcooled Flow Boiling Pressure Drop in Microchannel Heat Sinks

This study examines the pressure drop characteristics of subcooled two-phase microchannel heat sinks. A new model is proposed, which depicts the subcooled flow as consisting of a homogeneous two-phase flow layer near the heated walls of the microchannel and a second subcooled bulk liquid layer. This model is intended for conditions where subcooled flow boiling persists along the entire microcha...

Simulation of the Macroscopic Heat Transfer and Flow Behaviours in Microchannel Heat Sinks using Porous Media Approximation

Due to the high performance of electronic components, the heat generated is increasing dramatically and cooling system for such components becomes one of the most important issues to dissipate heat that generated in electronic component. In the present analysis, a microchannel heat sink configuration is simulated by modelling the stacked microchannel heat sinks in macroscopic scale as if it is ...

Subcooled two-phase flow boiling in a microchannel heat sink: comparison of conventional numerical models

Subcooled flow boiling in multi-microchannels can be used as an efficient thermal management approach in compact electrical devices. Highly subcooled flow boiling of HFE 7100 is studied in two microchannel heat sinks to choose a proper numerical model for simulating boiling flows in microchannels. Results of five different numerical models, including Volume of Fluid (VOF), Eulerian boiling, Eul...

Single-Phase Flow and Heat Transport and Pumping Considerations in Microchannel Heat Sinks

Microchannel heat sinks are widely regarded as being amongst the most effective heat removal techniques from space-constrained electronic devices. However, the fluid flow and heat transfer in microchannels is not fully understood. The pumping requirements for flow through microchannels are also very high and none of the micropumps in the literature are truly suitable for this application. Resul...
